Layer Marney Tower has some great locations for your wedding photographer to take some amazing photographs. We spoke to Rachael Pereira about their top tips about getting photos you will love.

An interview with Rachael Pereira about wedding photography at Layer Marney Tower

What is the best place for a romantic couple photo?

For a romantic couple photo at Layer Marney Tower there is a lovely lake with a bridge over, surrounded by trees. It is a hidden away area that most guests don't realise is there, so nice and quiet for the couple to have a few moments alone, and beautiful light for beautiful photos.

What is the best place for a group photo?

I found the best place at Layer Marney Tower for a group photo is on the large stairway leading up to the tower. The stairway is large enough to fit lots of guests on at different levels, and the photo can feature the stunning tower in the background.

What is the best place for rainy day photos?

There is a large archway leading into the courtyard at Layer Marney Tower which works well as a location for rainy day photos and provides plenty of natural light. The archway is large enough to fit lots of guests for group photos, and also works well for couple portraits. There is also a barn area which is available for photos on a rainy day.

What sets Layer Marney Tower apart from other venues?

What sets Layer Marney Tower apart from other venues has to be its history and character. The iconic tower makes a beautiful backdrop to any photo, giving a different look during day and night time. Many features of the venue, including the large tapestry in the Long Gallery, reflect on Tudor times and add something special to the wedding photography.

It had everything we wanted in one venue, a beautiful ceremony room, an incredible reception area, stunning grounds and courtyard for a summer night and lovely staff who helped organise everything. It was also a beautiful historic venue that provided the perfect backdrop for our photos.

What was the best thing about Layer Marney Tower?

The ease and simplicity in organising a wedding there in such a beautiful location. We wouldn't have changed a thing.

How helpful were the staff at Layer Marney Tower before the event?

The staff were exceedingly helpful. We were living in Australia while planning our wedding and only arrived in the UK 4 weeks before our big day. The staff made it very easy and arranged everything with us by email.

The venue staff were cool, calm and sophisticated and even handled things when an extra wedding guest arrived for dinner without any complaint.

It was a lot easier on the big day than we expected. It was great to store all of our decorations at the venue the day before so we had a chance to relax.

Danielle and Michael Hall got married at Layer Marney Tower on the 31st July 2014

How would you rate Layer Marney Tower out of 5?

Why did you choose Layer Marney Tower for your wedding?

Everything to be honest. The whole package. Somewhere lovely looking, great parking, amazing caterers and a whole host of people that come recommended with the place. Layer marney made it easy to choose. For me (Danni, the bride) what really sold it was the stairs, and courtyard and separate room for the ceremony. There was so much space to socialise in for all types of people! The look of the hall all made up for the wedding breakfast, and the lovely PianoDJ were superb.

What was the best thing about Layer Marney Tower?

Honestly, all of it. From the staff being amazing to the suite to stay in at night, it was perfect. I've been to more weddings there since and it looks good in all weathers with plenty of space to cater for rain too.

How helpful were the staff at Layer Marney Tower before the event?

Wonderful! Bouquet Garni, the caterers Layer Marney use are on point and very well practiced. They made us feel at ease and helped out. My contact with Layer Marney was really helpful too, letting us come in and see the place pretty much whenever was convenient for both parties so we could plan more!

How helpful were the staff at Layer Marney Tower on the day of the event?

Yet again, perfect. From the chefs to the head waiter, everything was wonderful. Any issues were resolved very quickly. We even had an issue with extra guests and they were catered for instantly and looked after well. We even had a couple of older guests who got rather overheated and they were looked after too!

What did you wish you knew about Layer Marney Tower before getting married?

Listen to Layer Marney with their recommended lists, go to plenty of wedding fairs and enjoy it. Everyone makes it so easy to do, I was terrified of wedding planning, but it was a joy and the day was spot on! Oh! Also, you can have fireworks there if you want to pay out for them. Boy was I tempted!

What tips would you give someone getting married at Layer Marney Tower?

1. Prepare for an amazing bath later on, the suite is beautiful.
2. Don't panic, if there is anything that needs doing the staff can and will help.
3. If you are having the ceremony upstairs, remember there are some stairs (not that they don't have a lift for any disabled guests which is great!)
